Mona Aghababee was born in Esfahan, Iran. Mona works predominantly in the medium of sculpture and installation. She completed BA and MA from Art University of Tehran, Iran. She has exhibited her work in international group shows in Iran, Europe, US and Australia. She received the Damon Courtney Memorial Young Sculpture Prize from Sculpture by the Sea festival from Sydney in 2009. She participated in the Sixth and seventh National Biennial of Sculpture of Tehran in 2011 and 2017 and the Urban Sculpture Biennial at the Barg Gallery in 2010 and 2012. Furthermore, She received a full two-month fellowship at the Sculpture Center residency, Utica, NY, 2012. Also, She got a fellowship from MacDowell colony, Peterborough, where she received the Robert Sterling Foundation Fellowship for the artist from the Middle East, 2014. Also, she was awardee of a full fellowship from Headlands art center residency in California, 2016.She is the recipient of the First prize in the Fifth Urban sculpture Biennial of Tehran. Now she is selected for the three months residency and a show in ACC Galerie Weimar in Germany for her recent project and two months residency program in Beirut art residency in 2018. She is also co-founder and co-director of Va space for contemporary art from 2014 in Esfahan. Va is an independent and a non-profit art project space and residency program.
